2 Sam 15:31
31 And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Lord, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.
Sermon:
Ahithophel was originally the counselor of King David, but later he turned his back on David, supporting Absalom to rebel and overthrow David’s kingship. Ahithophel was well-known for his advice, so much so that “Absalom followed Ahithophel’s advice, just as David had done. For every word Ahithophel spoke seemed as wise as though it had come directly from the mouth of God” (2 Samuel 16:23, NLT). Ahithophel had the gift of wisdom.
David knew that Ahithophel was normally a good advisor, but he prayed that he would give foolish counsel to Absalom
David sent Hushai back to Absalom in Jerusalem as a secret agent to frustrate the advice of Ahithophel (2 Samuel 15:32–37). In Jerusalem Hushai pledged his loyalty to Absalom but began to give advice to work in David’s favour (2 Samuel 17:14).
Absalom requested that his counsellors tell what step he should take. Ahithophel said to pursue David immediately with an army of twelve thousand men and “attack him while he is weary and weak” (2 Samuel 17:1). Hushai, however, counselled Absalom to delay the attack, form a larger force, and totally execute David and his men (verses 7–13). Absalom chose to follow the advice of Hushai and reject Ahithophel’s counsel. This was of God, since “the Lord had determined to frustrate the good advice of Ahithophel in order to bring disaster on Absalom” (verse 14). God turned the counsel of Ahithophel to foolishness before Absalom, it was not Ahitophel that became foolish but rather his Counsel did not make sense in the eyes of Absalom, this shows that no matter your gift not every one will accept you, beware of praise singers, those that praise you today can turn against you tomorrow l.
As soon as Absalom rejected his advice, Ahithophel was filled with shame, and “he put his house in order and then hanged himself” (2 Samuel 17:23). Absalom was defeated because he followed Hushai's advice and received the punishment due his rebellion (2 Samuel 18:6–15).
As you Pray these Prayer points today, the lord will turn every counsel of Ahitophel to foolishness in the name of Jesus
Prayer points
1. Thank God for his mercies and his faithfulness upon your life he is worthy to be praised
2. Lord Jesus, turn the counsel of Ahitophel to foolishness over my life in the name of Jesus
3. Every counsel of Ahitophel against me will end up in foolishness in the name of Jesus
4. I terminate the contract of every Ahitophel standing against me in the name of Jesus
5. Every evil counselor after my life catch fire in the name of Jesus
6. The counsel of Ahitophel against my destiny will not stand in the name of Jesus
7. Every Satanic strategist assigned against my life, catch fire in the name of Jesus
8. I command every strategy of the enemy against me to fail in the name of Jesus
