Ruth 1:14-17
14 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.
15 And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.
16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
Sermon:
The Book of Ruth begins with sorrow. When a famine devasted Bethlehem, Naomi and her husband sojourned in Moab, and their two sons took Moabite wives named Ruth and Orpah. But after a decade, disaster struck, the women were left alone in the world when their husbands passed away.
Naomi, hearing of the Lord’s faithfulness to his people in the land of Judah, decided to set out to return there. Both Ruth and Orpah insisted on accompanying her, but she told them to return to their own mothers instead. Hearing this, Orpah kissed Naomi, and left, but Ruth “clung to her,” refusing to leave her side, she insisted to follow Naomi and she made a statement "Your people will be my people and your God my God". She went to Bethlehem with her mother in law and got connected to Boaz who was a Kinsman of her late husband,
Boaz would be the great great grandfather of David and Ruth the great great grandmother of David, she who was not a jew found herself in the Lineage of David and Jesus Christ. Oprah went back to her gods but Naomi turned to God, but both said they would follow but only Ruth stood her ground, Oprah's decision did not influence Ruth, she stood her ground, we must learn to stand our ground for what is right no matter the wrong choices others around us make
