How to interprete dreams series (Pt 1)

How to interprete dreams series (Pt 1)

Dreams are given to us by God as a way of speaking to us and making us know when there is victory ahead or a looming danger. God spoke to so many people through dreams in scripture one of such is

Abraham

Gen 15:1

After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying,

“Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great.”

Jacob

Gen 46:2

God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said, “Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here I am.”

Pharaoh

Gen 41:1-7

"Now it happened at the end of two full years that Pharaoh had a dream, and behold, he was standing by the Nile. And lo, from the Nile there came up seven cows, sleek and fat; and they grazed in the marsh grass. Then behold, seven other cows came up after them from the Nile, ugly and gaunt, and they stood by the other cows on the bank of the Nile."

Also in the new testament

The wise men

Matt 2:12

"And having been warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, the magi left for their own country by another way."

Joseph

Matt 2:13

Now when they had gone, behold, an angel of the Lord *appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him.”

These are a few amongst so many others that the Lord spoke through in the dream.

Dreams come in two ways, they can come in parables and they can also come directly i.e the way you see it is the way it comes to pass

There are certain people who find it difficult to interprete their dreams especially when it comes to dreams that come in parables, it is important to take note that when it comes to interpreting dreams holy spirit first comes to mind, as a believer you need the guidance of the holy spirit to help you interprete your dreams. The second thing that you must know is that you are the best interpreter of your dreams, your dreams are shaped and formed out of your daily life experiences, something that is peculiar to you alone, when you study the events that happen in your life you can be able to point out certain things and also give accurate interpretation to your dream.

In interpreting your dreams you have to take note of the following

I. Ask God for the grace: The first thing you want to do is to ask God to give you the grace of interpretation of dreams, the bible says if you ask you will receive (Matt 7:7), many times we do not get it because we do not ask, when we genuinely ask God he is going to release it to you, or if you have been seeing your dreams in parables you can ask God to begin to show you your dreams in a more direct form, when you ask him to show you more directly he will.

II. Ask God if the dream you saw has to do with your past, present or future: This is the first thing to note after you have been given the grace to interprete dreams, you need to be aware if your dream reveals or takes you back to an occurrence in the past, if God is showing you about your present situation, or if he is showing you about something that is set to happen in the future, the most common among these dreams are dreams that reveal the future, but because it is common does not mean we should neglect the fact that a dream can be referring to your past or might be showing what you are going through at the present.

III. Link your dreams with your present spiritual state: Majority of the dreams you will have are dreams that have to do with your spiritual state, i.e if you are doing a seven days prayer and fasting program for a particular reason chances are that you will see dreams that have to do with that thing you are fasting about, if you are in a stressed or depressed state you will probably have dreams that make you panic the more, when you have these dreams with good interpretation you should be able to know where the dream is coming from.
