“Wrestling in the Dream: A Spiritual Battle Against Temptation/Lust”

Dreams often reflect the struggles we face in waking life—whether spiritual, emotional, or even physical. One particular dream shared by a believer reveals a deep battle:

> “I dreamt I was wrestling against a recognized personality who wanted to have sex with me, but I pushed him back.”

At first glance, this may seem like an ordinary struggle, but from a biblical perspective, this dream carries profound meaning.

In Scripture, sexual temptation is one of the fiercest battles believers face. Joseph had to flee from Potiphar’s wife to maintain his purity (Genesis 39:7-12). Wrestling in a dream, especially against a well-known figure, could symbolize a fight against external pressures, internal struggles, or even spiritual warfare. The act of pushing back signifies resistance (James 4:7: “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”), showing spiritual strength and God’s grace at work.

Wrestling often represents deep spiritual conflict. Jacob wrestled with an angel and received a blessing (Genesis 32:24-30). Similarly, this dream could reveal a battle for victory over temptation, oppression, or ungodly influences. The identity of the person in the dream may symbolize a familiar temptation, an authority figure, or an unseen force seeking to lead the dreamer astray.

This dream could be interpreted as a sign of victory over temptation, a call to spiritual warfare, or a warning to set boundaries in real life. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that we wrestle “not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers...” If this dream reflects a real-life struggle, it is an encouragement to intensify spiritual defenses through prayer, fasting, and the Word of God.

In response to such dreams, believers should pray for wisdom and strength (James 1:5), stay spiritually alert (Proverbs 4:23), and lean on Scripture (1 Corinthians 6:18: “Flee from sexual immorality”). As Paul encourages in Ephesians 6:13, “Put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground.”

This dream is a reminder that the Christian walk involves constant battles, but with God, victory is assured. If you’ve had a similar dream, take it as a call to remain steadfast, prayerful, and rooted in God’s Word. Your victory is already won in Christ!
